World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
