But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to force a final set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
